MLK WEEKEND

hey everyone - today really hasn't been as happy as my face appears, but i'm trying to hold it together anyway!

my son has really disappointed me and i'm not sure just how i wanna handle it - he spent the night at a buddy's and the mom was not there! yeah right, typical teenage crap- i get that - but the both of these boys have deceived me and i'm right mad about it!!!
i'm having my son's friend over for the weekend as a favor to the kids mom who went out of town for the weekend. i didn't realize that she left yesterday(thursday) and i allowed my son to stay over to his friends house overnite thinking the mom was there and not leaving until today(friday). well, duhhhh on me- they pulled the wool over these old eyes.
my son calls me this morning(i was at work) to say he was not feeling well and i realized the number on my cell phone was not his school - he was at his friends(STILL AT 9A.M.) both of their a___s missed school! needless to say i hit the roof and at 4:04 p.m.(this minute) i am still so annoyed i can barely type!
my son has totally lost my trust in him and i think i am a pretty hip and understanding mom, but when you lose trust, YOU LOSE TRUST! not only that, but i still am committed to having his friend over for this weekend!
fun weekend at my house, hunh???!!!

this is dr. martin luther king's holiday weekend and to be honest , i don't really feel very much like "sharing the dream" with any one right now.

my son is going to be 16 in 2 1/2 weeks and guess what, the birthday surprise if so O-F-F!!!!
gotta go on home now and face these little sneaky sob's and let the MOTHER RIOT ACT GO INTO FORCE!
doesn't the Bible say "spare the rod, spoil the child"??

ANYBODY GOT A ROD OR 2 I CAN BORROW!!??

Man, I wish my father was still alive to enjoy this new Chicago victory!!! Our Sweet Home Chicago White Sox have broken the "curse" and swept the World Series and kicked the Houston Astro's butts!!!!

I am kinda sorry I am not there right now as Chicagoan's really know how to party when the home teams are in high gear. Nothing like a Chicago Party coz a Chicago Party don't stop!!!!!!!!!

The White Sox haven't won a World Series in what - 85 freakin' years???? WHEW - YOU GO HOMETEAM!! The Chicago folks out here in Phoenix, AZ sure are celebratin' tonite - FO SHO!!!!

It feels like home seeing the new "WHITE SOX PARK" - hey, I don't even know the new name. It will always be WHITE SOX PARK to me. It was so awesome watching them go for the gold and I miss the fun I used to have at the "old ball game" when I was a shorty. MMMMMM.........
I can smell the hotdogs and hear the vendors calling out so eloquently in the only way the Chi-town vendors can do it - "HEY - GETCHA HOT DOGS HEAH" - "COOOLLLDD BEEEEEER, HEAH" - yeah, man, those were the days.

Well, victory is in the grasps of OLD CHI TOWN once more! LET THE CHANTING BEGIN!!

SOUTH SI-IDE!! SOUTH SI-IDE!!!

MISS ROSA PARKS

A lady that was way before her time has now passed into time itself leaving behind a legacy of freedom and civil rights for all that can remember and those who should never forget.

Miss Rosa has gone into the history books as the person who set the civil rights movement off. That little lady just had enough of moving those tired feet of hers and she simply refused to be moved from her seat in the FRONT of the bus. Funny...........................most of the kids today prefer to sit in the back of the buses nowadays - guess when YOU make the choice it really doesn't matter, but when the choice is made FOR you, it makes one helluva difference!

GET YOUR WELL EARNED REST, MY SISTER, AND HUG THE DOCTOR FOR US ALL, PLEASE. AFTER ALL, IT WAS YOU 2 THAT BEGAN TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.

I hope we never forget!

ONE DAY WITH MR. WILLIE

I absolutely believe in my heart of hearts this has got to be one of the most important days of my life - and that of my son.
Today I did what I wish everyone could do and that is walk in the shoes of one of our brothers and try to make a difference.

I have had the pleasure of meeting a sweet and wonderful elderly gentleman by the name of Willie Reeves, who made his way out of the devastation of hurricaine Katrina - took a flight in helicopter and his first plane ride all in the same day. I met this man while serving as a volunteer in Phoenix, AZ'S Veteran Coliseum and I don't think my life will ever be the same as a result of this.

MR. WILLIE just happened to be one of those fortunate people that made his way out of Katrina's madness - without his wife - she is in Louisiana in a nursing home - he is in a Scottsdale AZ nursing home and doing well.

Today my son and I went to the nursing home and picked him up and just took him out for the day. We did very simple things like going to the barber shop and getting Mr. Willie a haircut, went to Burger King and had lunch, went to another older gentleman's house that lives in Phoenix just so Mr. Willie would be able to say he met some people here that were just like him. He got a big kick out of my son and he told stories of days long ago in New Orleans and how he used drive a truck and how his friends made moonshine and corn mash and what it was like growing up in the south. He talked about his parents and the type of people they were and how he and his brothers and sister grew up on a farm and how happy his life had pretty much been.

He expressed his gratitude to me for being a "Great Lady" he said and how happy he was that he had met me. HOW HAPPY HE WAS HE MET ME???? Man, all the while I was thinking how blessed I am for having met HIM!! He will never know the joy I got in taking him to the barbershop for a long overdue haircut and the guys in the shop response to him on being a survivor! One guy paid for his haircut, but I was ready and willing to pay for it myself.

We went to Walmart - Mr. Willie, my son Sam and I - what a kick I got out of watching him ride through the aisles of the store in the carts they have for people who can't walk well or are in need of help. He got the hang of the driving right away and said,"Hey, I used to be a truck driver don't forget!" - What a treat it was just watching him have some sort of normalcy to his 75 year old life. He is quite a talker and has the personality of someone who can enjoy a laugh and make you laugh all at the same time, and did I laugh today!!

When we dropped him off at the nursing care facility he is currently staying in, I almost hated to leave him. The place is nice enough and clean as a whistle, but I felt like I was leaving behind an old friend. We showed him how to use the room phone - "kinda newfangled" he said, but Sam helped him out on how to use it. I let him use my cell phone to call his wife in LA and his sister in Mississippi, and he just beamed while he told his family of his latest adventures with his "new found grandchildren" - ME AND MY SON!!

I have been blessed this day more than I can say. It felt good to me to be of service to someone who really needed it and it blessed me to see how my son got into the spirit as well. We often forget our old ones in this country and what they have earned in hard work and spirit should not be taken advantage of or forgotten.

MY SWEET MR. WILLIE - I'll call him tomorrow and check on him.

I WILL NEVER STOP TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!

WHAT HAS HAPPENDED TO OUR COUNTRY??

I have been appalled at the blatant racisim that has been diplayed on our TV's over this past week as the most unfortunate people in NEW ORLEANS, LA have endured the most gut wrenching and diplorable conditions in the "Safety Dome" they had to call home for 5 days! I am horrified and incensed at what I watched day in and day out - human beings, AMERICANS, AFRICAN AMERCIANS - left without food or water after the rains came and went. What kind of society are we living in when men, women, children, elderly - left to die without food and water?

Black and white people shared the Dome quarters for those 5 days - primarily Black people - VERY POOR BLACK PEOPLE! I feel in my heart(Lord help me) that the powers that be really didn't give a damn if they lived or died. These people were told they would be safe from the winds and the rain of the hurricane, yet when the winds died down and the rain went away - they were apparently forgotten about. I mean really, how do you tell people to go somewhere for safety and forget to bring in the supplies to sustain their safety? After all, didn't the people who directed those less fortunate to the Dome for safe keeping - didn't they eat and drink after the waters passed by?

I don't know if I have ever seen anything like this in my lifetime - I mean right there in my face - like BAM!! My heart and my head had such a hard time processing all I was taking in - Lord, I couldn't sleep - I even felt guilty buying groceries the other day - PEOPLE ARE HUNGRY OUT THERE AND MY BELLY IS FULL - TOO FULL! I fussed at my son for leaving the shower running unneccesarily - People in Louisiana and Mississippi didn't have ANY water to drink or to clean themselves with and he was just letting the water run.

I think sometimes God allows us to see things that are painful and ugly to look at just so we will thank Him for all the blessings HE has given us and too have mercy and empathy on those less fortunate than ourselves. I think GOD is nature and when HE turns the wrath of Himself on us and our surroundings, we should truly take a look at what HE is trying to tell us. Just like HE brings the storms and winds and rain, the same GOD brings the sun to dry it all up and brings people together to work together and assist the less fortunate in starting over.

I want so much to make a difference in the lives of people who need an example of love, kindness and whatever would let them see My Saviour working in my life. I would only hope that HIS light would shine through in something I did.

I'LL NEVER STOP TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

THE TRIP

HEY YOU - GOT YOUR MESSAGE - HOW SWEET! GUESS WHAT ELSE I HAVE - SALERNO BUTTER COOKIES!!!!!! CAN U BELIEVE THAT??

WENT HOME OVER THE WEEKEND AND WAS IT EVER THE TRIP OF TRIPS. NOT ONLY DID I SPEND TIME WITH MY FABULOUS GRANDCHILDREN AND MY DAUGHTER, SON-IN-LAW AND MY SISTERS, BUT MY EX-HUSBAND WAS THERE AS WELL! THIS IS THE FATHER TO MY 2 DAUGHTERS. I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS MAN IN QUITE SOME TIME AND HE HAS CHANGED QUITE A BIT - AND NOT FOR THE BETTER. HE HAS BEEN QUITE ILL AND HE IS HAVING SURGERY ON SEPT.7 - I HOPE AND PRAY THAT HE WILL DO WELL IN HIS RECOVERY AND HIS HEALTH, BUT I REALIZED THAT I AM ALSO GLAD THAT OUR UNION WAS DISSOLVED MANY YEARS AGO!

IT'S A TRIP - THE THOUGHTS THAT GO THROUGH YOUR MIND AND THE MEMORIES THAT COME FLOODING BACK AS YOU LOOK AT SOMEONE WHO KNEW YOU WHEN YOU WERE A MEER TEENAGER - WE BOTH WERE - OH MY HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED US BOTH - BUT I STILL LOOK BETTER THAN HE DOES!! :)

I think I'll be blogging more often for awhile coz it really releases tensions of memories of ex-spouses and stuff.

HEY U - THANKS AGAIN FOR VISITING MY BLOG AND THANKS FOR THE NOTE!

JUST ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE

Recently the news announced that the person leaking information to the press during the Watergate scandal had identified himself as the "DEEP THROAT" - the heart of the scandal and chief source of information. Well, to all our surprise it was revealed that is a now 90 year old man by the name of W. MARK FELT, a former FBI agent during the 1970's.

WHAT?? You mean to tell me after all these years that DIANE SAWYER is not "DEEP THROAT"? Damn! And I thought she got the job at GOOD MORNING AMERICA just coz she "knew" some stuff and had some stuff on someone and stuff!

Can you imagine holding this info for all these years and the poor old guy almost dying without becoming a full fledged hero for this US of A!! I remember the day Nixon got on that presidential plane - waved that famous (or infamous) saludatory wave at the world one last time, and he was history. All coz of a little breakin in a little joint called WATERGATE and the tapes that got erased and everything. THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND- WE THOUGHT THEY'D NEVER END!

I remember my oldest daughter was just a little baby and the TV was tied up for weeks of interviews, acquistions, NO BARNEY OR SESAME STREET to entertain her during the trial of the century!

We thought breakins were scandalous - fast forward 25-30 years to the real scandal of the century - THE ALMOST IMPEACHMENT OF FORMER PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. CLINTON AND "MONICA-GATE"! WHEW - how times have changed.

I tell you - there is just something in the water over there in Washington, DC - those darn presidents and the fun times they get to have - I TELL YOU!
